Recently, on Greycoat Research’s Korea page, Ilsooni’s guardian shared her experience after starting the Probiotics Protocol.
Ilsooni was born with naturally weak kidney function, and while adjusting her diet for kidney care, she developed small, dry pellet-like stools and reduced stool volume.
After switching her probiotic to the Probiotics Protocol, her stool quality began to improve within two weeks.
Today, we are sharing Ilsooni’s story of gentle digestive recovery while managing early Stage 2 CKD.

- Name: Ilsooni
- Home: Korea
- Age: 3 years 5 months
- Breed: Domestic Shorthair (Cheese Tabby)
- Condition: Congenital kidney weakness, history of elevated creatinine at 1 year old, chronic digestive issues including low stool volume and pebble-like stools
From Ilsooni’s Guardian
When Ilsooni was one year old, her bloodwork showed elevated creatinine, so I immediately switched her to a renal diet. Over the next year and a half, her numbers slowly returned to normal.
Even after her kidney values improved, her digestive issues never fully went away. She always ate very small portions, and her stool stayed dry and pellet shaped. To help with this, I started mixing a gastrointestinal diet into her renal food. With that combination, her stool volume increased and the shape looked much healthier.
But during her September checkup, her creatinine suddenly jumped to a Stage 2 level again. I felt that adding the gastrointestinal food had reduced her renal diet intake, so I stopped the gastrointestinal food completely and decided to retest three months later instead of starting medication right away.
To my relief, her October 17 retest showed her creatinine had come back down to 1.7 mg/dL.
However, once I removed the gastrointestinal diet, her stool quickly became small and dry again. The digestive problem that had followed her for so long returned almost immediately.

Starting the Probiotics Protocol
To help improve her stool quality, I decided to switch her from Purina probiotics to the Probiotics Protocol on October 26.
Since Ilsooni is extremely sensitive to both smell and texture, I had already tried several probiotics in the past, but she refused every single one of them. I honestly expected the same thing to happen again and was worried she wouldn’t accept this one either.
But to my surprise, she ate it without any hesitation.
I simply opened the capsule, mixed the powder into her wet food, and she took it as if nothing was different.
I think the lack of smell really helped her accept it so easily.
Lab Values and Condition
📅 Before October 26, 2025 (pre-routine)
- Main Symptoms: Very small stool volume and dry, pebble-like stool
- Supplements: Renal supplements, Purina Probiotics
- Crea: 1.7
- Notes: Stool worsened after stopping gastrointestinal diet
📅 About two weeks after starting the Probiotics Protocol
- Main Symptoms: Increased stool volume and soft, smooth stool similar to a small corn-shaped snack
- Supplements: Renal supplements, Probiotics Protocol
- Crea: Next testing planned
- Notes: Stool improved after switching to the Probiotics Protocol
What I Felt as a Guardian
My veterinarian explained early on that Ilsooni was likely born with weak kidneys and would need renal food throughout her life. When her stool worsened after stopping the gastrointestinal diet, I felt helpless and unsure of what to do next.
I changed her probiotic with caution and doubt, but watching her accept the Probiotics Protocol without stress was a relief in itself. Seeing her stool return to a healthier shape made me feel that I had made the right decision.
I have been considering the Dr. Toru Protocol AIM supplement for some time, but hesitated because of her sensitivity. Now that she is accepting the Probiotics Protocol well, I feel more optimistic. If her kidney values remain stable at the next test, I plan to try AIM support as well.
A Small Lesson
Every cat is different, and in my experience, progress usually shows up in small, steady changes rather than dramatic ones.
For Ilsooni, better digestion was the first clear sign that her body was starting to feel more comfortable.
Once her gut felt supported, her daily routine also became much easier, and I realized how important this is for long-term kidney care.
This experience reminded me that even gentle adjustments can make a real difference, especially for sensitive cats like Ilsooni who were born with weaker kidneys.
