Today, we received some heartwarming news from peaceful Idaho, USA.
Most cats with stage 2 chronic kidney disease (CKD) struggle to maintain their condition, but recently, we heard from Rocky Roo—a 9-year-old cat whose kidney values have improved significantly after 6 months of using Greycoat Research’s three-protocol set.
Today, we’ll be sharing the story of Rocky, who is now thriving at the age of 9 with better energy and stabilized blood values.
Q. Were there any changes in your cat's weight before and after administering Greycoat Research's supplements?
A. No, she is 10lbs

Note from Greycoat Research :
In managing feline kidney disease, maintaining a stable weight is one of the most important goals.
Nausea—a common symptom of CKD—often causes cats to refuse food, which can quickly lead to weight loss.
This weight loss is closely linked to worsening blood test results, creating a dangerous cycle.
That’s why the fact that Rocky's weight has remained stable is a very positive sign.
Q. What are some things you've learned while caring for a cat with CKD?
A. I learned that hydration & nutrition are the cornerstones for her wellbeing. This said, I discontinued dry food (will give occasional treats) and instead give Hill’s k/d, Royal Canin, & Purina NF Early Care wet foods. I have fountains and fresh water available throughout the house to aide with hydration. I give a pouch of Hydracare daily as well.
Q. Are you giving your cat any other supplements or prescribed medications?
A. Theophilline for asthma
Most of the cat guardians who reach out to Greycoat Research for consultations are managing their cat’s kidney disease with anywhere from 5 to 12 prescription medications and supplements.
But Rocky Roo is a unique case. Her guardian chose to manage her condition using only Greycoat Research’s three kidney supplements—with consistency and care.
Rocky’s first consultation with Greycoat Research began in October 2024.
From the start, her guardian decided to begin care with all three supplements—Dr. Toru Protocol, Intensive Protocol, and Probiotics Protocol—fully committed to doing everything possible for her 9-year-old cat.
Rocky was managed exclusively with Greycoat Research’s kidney formulas, and after 6 months of steady supplementation, her bloodwork showed meaningful improvement.
Rocky's Progress
- October 2024 Creatinine: 2.4 BUN: 30
- April 2025 Creatinine: 2.1 BUN 23
Let’s take a look at Rocky’s blood test results from October 2024.
- BUN: 30
- CREA: 2.4
These values placed her in late-stage IRIS Stage 2 CKD.
And after 6 months of daily care, in April 2025, her blood test showed:
- BUN: 23
- CREA: 2.1
Her creatinine levels had clearly dropped, and BUN had also decreased steadily.
This reflects improved waste clearance and reduced burden on the kidneys.
Her guardian also reported that Rocky was eating well, maintaining her weight, and showing brighter energy overall.
During our consultations, we emphasized the importance of gradual weight gain—especially when a cat regains its appetite.
In CKD Stage 2, sudden weight gain can place additional stress on the kidneys, even if it seems like a positive sign.
Many guardians are so relieved to see their cats eating again that they let them eat freely. But for cats with CKD, weight should be regained slowly and steadily for long-term benefit.
We hope Rocky Roo continues to thrive with stable values, good energy, and the love of her dedicated guardian.
Greycoat Research will continue to support every step of the journey.
