We at Greycoat Research do not recommend putting cats with CKD on a raw food diet.
Cats with CKD require a low-protein, low-phosphorus, and low-sodium diet with proper nutritional balance for their kidney health. However, this is difficult to achieve with a raw food diet due to its high protein content, which can put a burden on feline kidneys and hinder BUN management.
As such, we instead recommend feeding cats with CKD renal food as opposed to raw food. Renal cat food is made by experts precisely for cats with kidney issues, taking into consideration their need for adjusted protein, phosphorus, and sodium levels. This is the safer and more effective way to care for your cat’s kidneys.
