From Bianca’s Guardian
Bianca has always been a gentle and affectionate cat.
In 2022, during her routine bloodwork, we first noticed that her kidney values were slightly elevated. Her creatinine was 2.0 mg/dL and her BUN was 34.6 mg/dL.
She had no symptoms at the time, and her urine was well concentrated, so our veterinarian simply recommended monitoring. I didn’t worry too much then.
By 2024, her values had risen, and that was when I started paying much closer attention to her daily habits—how much she was eating, drinking, and how her energy felt each day.
Even as her numbers changed, Bianca stayed calm and steady in her routine.
That helped me stay hopeful that gentle, consistent care could keep her comfortable.
Starting the Routine
With guidance from her veterinarian, I began building Bianca’s kidney support routine one step at a time.
At first, I continued the supplements I had already been giving her, including Omega 3 salmon oil, probiotics, and Pet Wellbeing Kidney Support Gold.
I introduced everything slowly so she could adjust without stress.
Later, I added Greycoat Research supplements—the Dr. Toru Protocol and the Intensive Protocol—to round out her routine.
Her weight fluctuated—up and down at times—but she was always more comfortable when her routine stayed consistent.
On days when her appetite dipped, I supported her with safe, high calorie treats to help maintain her energy.

Lab Values and Condition
Over the years, Bianca has had several blood tests.
Her numbers have changed gradually, but within those changes, I’ve been able to see long stretches of stability as well.
📅 August 2022
- Creatinine 2.0 mg/dL
- BUN 34.6 mg/dL

📅 August 2024
- Creatinine 2.47 mg/dL
- BUN 47.2 mg/dL

📅 July 2025
- Creatinine 3.2 mg/dL
-
BUN 42 mg/dL

Not all of her values were ideal, but many remained steady, including her calcium, phosphorus, electrolytes, and liver markers.
Most importantly, she continued eating on her own, grooming regularly, and resting comfortably.
Watching her maintain these small daily behaviors reassured me much more than the numbers alone ever could.
What I Felt as a Guardian
When her numbers first began rising, I was scared.
I didn’t know how fast things would change or what I should prepare for.
But over time, I realized that Bianca’s daily behavior told me far more than any single blood test result.
She still greeted me in the mornings.
She still asked for treats.
She still napped in her favorite spots and enjoyed quiet moments beside me.
Those small, everyday signs brought me so much comfort.
They reminded me that stability can show up quietly, even on days when the numbers make you anxious.
A Small Lesson
Bianca taught me that CKD is not a straight path.
Her weight shifted, her appetite changed, and some days felt easier than others.
But when her routine stayed steady, she always seemed more comfortable.
I learned how important calorie support is for CKD cats.
High calorie treats helped on days when her appetite softened.
Finding foods she genuinely enjoyed made a real difference in how she felt.
Most of all, she taught me not to give up.
Progress may come slowly, but gentle consistency matters.
Every small sign of comfort reassured me that the daily effort was worth it.
