Meet Chinxy the Cat

- Name: Chinxy
- Home: Ohio, USA
- Date of Birth: Apr. 11, 2011 (14 years old)
- Condition: Stage 3 CKD (recent weight gain signals health improvement)
Today, we received some heartwarming news from distant Ohio, USA.
Most cats with stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD) experience weight loss, but recently, we received the delightful news that Chinxy, a cat with stage 3 CKD, had gained weight instead!
Greycoat Research provides personalized, 1:1 kidney disease care consultations for cats and their owners all over the world, including Korea, USA, and Japan. So far, we’ve surpassed 1,000 consultation cases.
Today, we’ll be examining the story of Chinxy, who was able to regain her health at the age of 14!

- Q. Were there any changes in your cat’s weight before and after administering Greycoat Research’s supplements?
- A. Yes, my cat gained 2 lbs between the period of Jan 2025 and March 2025. The vet said that was a good thing since most cats with CKD consistently lose weight and her labs were showing significant improvements.

- Q. Are you giving your cat any other supplements or prescribed medications?
- A. We are administering all three of your products including the probiotic. Sub Q fluids, Royal Canine wet and dry food for CKD. The vet told us to stop the AIM 30 dry food and treats. We had previously purchased all of the AIM 30 food and powder supplements, but we decided to discontinue those based on the vets recommendations.

Most of the cat owners who reach out to Greycoat Research for consultations are feeding their cats with kidney diseases anywhere between 5 and 12 prescription medications and supplements. But Chinxy is a fairly unique case in that her owner managed her kidney disease with just Greycoat Research’s supplements and subcutaneous (subQ) fluids.
The first consultation with Greycoat Research began on Jan. 2025. At the time, our consultant initially assumed that Chinxy’s owner was already giving Chinxy other supplements, and recommended only our Dr. Toru Protocol supplements.
However, Chinxy’s owner decided to go with all 3 of our kidney supplements, having made up their mind to do everything for their 14-year-old cat until the very end.
Let’s take a look at how Chinxy’s blood test results changed after her kidney disease was managed with just Greycoat Research’s supplements (Dr. Toru Protocol, Intensive Protocol, Probiotics Protocol) and subQ fluids.
Below are Chinxy’s blood test results from Dec. 2024.

As you can see, she had a creatinine level of 3.22 and BUN of 44.0, putting her at stage 3 CKD.
However, after 3 months of administering Greycoat Research’s supplements, Chinxy’s blood test results in March changed dramatically.

Creatinine 1.77, BUN 34
You can clearly see that Chinxy’s creatinine levels have noticeably decreased. Her BUN, on the other hand, dropped only slightly in comparison. This can be attributed to the increased appetite and weight gain that Chinxy enjoyed while she was being managed with Greycoat Research’s supplements.
During our consultations, we advised Chinxy’s owner to control Chinxy’s food intake to prevent sudden weight gains while maintaining the current management approach.
For cats with kidney disease, stage 3 CKD is where weight management becomes crucial. Cats with kidney disease end up losing their appetites, so when their appetite suddenly returns, their delighted owners end up letting them eat as much as they want. However, sudden weight gain can end up straining their kidneys. As such, owners should help their cats gain weight slowly and steadily.
We hope that, with Greycoat Research support, Chinxy will remain energetic and strong as she receives care for her chronic kidney disease.
