Goro’s Stage 3 CKD Care - 134 Days of Consistent Management and Daily Stability

Real stories from guardians who share their cat’s health updates with Greycoat Research.

About Greycoat Program

Since July 2025, Greycoat Research has been running the Greycoat Program in Korea and Japan, helping guardians support daily kidney care at home.
Through the Greycoat Program, our team of veterinarians and pharmacists collaborates to provide personalized, professional guidance for effective home care. This helps guardians feel more confident supporting their cat’s diet, nutrition, and daily lifestyle at home.

Among the cases submitted, one entry stood out due to the complexity of the challenges involved.

Below is a blog post written from the perspective of Goro’s guardian, “Mr. Go.”

Goro's Story

Hello, I’m Goro’s guardian, Mr. Go.

Goro is a tuxedo cat managing Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) alongside bilateral kidney stones.

Her high sensitivity made veterinary care difficult, and her habit of "free feeding" made it nearly impossible to monitor her actual food intake.

Before the program, the simple task of giving Goro a single capsule was a constant source of stress, as her sensitivity turned every attempt into a nightmare.

Over the course of 134 days, however, her kidney values stayed within a more stable range, and she gradually regained her vitality.

The story below is based on my observations and records while caring for Goro.

This is not medical advice or a substitute for veterinary care, and it does not guarantee results.
Every cat’s condition is different, and guardians should consult their veterinarian for diagnosis and care decisions.

  • Name: Goro
  • Age: 9 years
  • Sex: Female
  • Home: Korea
  • Condition: Stage 3 CKD, bilateral kidney stones, extreme sensitivity, difficulty with daily supplement routine and diet management.
  • Greycoat Program Period: July 15, 2025 – October 14, 2025

1. Changes in Goro’s Bloodwork

The biggest relief for me is that Goro’s kidney values, which were once so unstable, are finally under control.
Before starting this program, those numbers were a constant source of anxiety.
But through consistent daily management, we’ve been able to keep those worrying figures stable.

Whenever I noticed even small changes, like shifts in her energy or appetite, I shared updates about Goro’s condition with Greycoat Research through real-time chat.

I was so happy when the specialist even congratulated me on how stably Goro’s values were being managed.

This does not indicate a treatment effect, and every cat’s condition can change in very different ways. Please consult your veterinarian for diagnosis, monitoring, and care decisions.

2. How My Sensitive Goro Transformed

Honestly, even more than the improved lab numbers, what made me happiest was the change in Goro’s attitude.

✔ The Moment Capsule Time Became Peaceful

In the beginning, giving Goro a capsule was a nightmare.
Even when I tried hiding it in her absolute favorite treats, she had an incredible ability to spit just the capsule right back out.
Later, just the sight of a capsule gun was enough to make her hiss at me.

But I refused to give up.
Eventually, I discovered that placing the capsule deep into her throat by hand was actually much more comfortable for her than using tools.
Finding that rhythm was a huge turning point for us.

How We Finally Mastered Scheduled Feeding

Goro used to be a 'free feeder,' eating whenever she wanted, so it was difficult to control her portions.
Following the pharmacist's advice, we started 'scheduled feeding' training, gradually moving from 8 meals a day → 6 → 4.

As a result, she now has a regular eating routine, and giving her supplements has become so much easier.

3. Changes in Weight and Vitality

✔ Maintaining Weight

I know that the key to managing renal failure is maintaining body weight.
Goro has stably stayed between 4.8kg and 5.0kg throughout her care.
There were times when she refused to eat due to a lack of appetite, but I didn't give up.
I managed to protect her weight by combining assisted feeding (syringe feeding) with a strict supplement regimen.

✔ Vitality Returned

As our care routine finally settled into a rhythm, Goro’s condition hit its absolute peak.

Her appetite came back, and her bowel movements became healthy again. But the best part? She is bursting with enough energy to play with her toys again!

4. How Goro Found Stability

Goro’s transformation is the result of my "consistency" and "steady effort."

Never giving up on capsule feeding practice:
Since she is a sensitive cat, I could have easily given up.
However, I practiced every day and eventually found a stress-free method to hand-feed her capsules.

Thorough food logging and scheduled feeding:
I boldly stopped free-feeding and established a habit of feeding her a fixed amount at fixed times.

Immediate communication and action:
Whenever I noticed small changes, such as refusing food or vomiting,
I immediately consulted with the manager and handled the situation according to their guidance.

5. Goro’s Daily Care Routine

Goro maintains a healthy lifestyle by strictly following this schedule every day.
