Chinxy’s Stage 3 CKD Care Story – Three Months of Steady Progress

  • Name: Chinxy
  • Home: Ohio, USA
  • Date of Birth: Apr. 11, 2011 (14 years old)
  • Condition: Stage 3 CKD

From Chinxy’s Guardian

Chinxy is a 14-year-old cat living with Stage 3 chronic kidney disease.
In late 2024, her bloodwork showed a creatinine level of 3.22 and BUN of 44.
While many cats with Stage 3 CKD struggle with weight loss, her guardian noticed that Chinxy’s appetite gradually returned, and her weight began to increase.

Starting the Routine

In January 2025, Chinxy’s guardian began a structured care plan that included the Dr. Toru Protocol, Intensive Protocol, and Probiotics Protocol, along with subcutaneous (SubQ) fluids and a renal-friendly diet.
Following veterinary advice, other dry food and powder-type supplements were discontinued to keep the regimen simple and consistent.

Her meals mainly consisted of Royal Canin wet and dry food for CKD, and she continued regular veterinary monitoring for hydration and kidney balance.

Health Observations

Creatinine 3.22 , BUN 44
Creatinine 1.77, BUN 34

Chinxy’s follow-up tests showed steady readings over three months.
Her appetite improved, and her guardian noticed she was eating with more interest and energy.
During consultations, careful attention was given to portion control to prevent sudden weight gain while maintaining stable nutrition.

Daily Life and Condition

Chinxy has shown a calmer, brighter daily rhythm—walking around more, resting comfortably, and engaging more often with her guardian.
Her coat appears smoother, and she seems more alert during the day.

For her guardian, seeing Chinxy’s appetite return and her energy stabilize has brought both comfort and hope.

What I Learned as a Guardian

For cats with kidney disease, balance is everything.
When appetite returns after a long decline, it’s tempting to overfeed, but gradual weight management is key to long-term stability.
Through this journey, I’ve learned that small, steady improvements can make a big difference in peace of mind.

Looking Ahead

Chinxy continues her care with the same steady approach—maintaining hydration, balanced nutrition, and daily supplementation under veterinary supervision.
Her next checkup will focus on sustaining her current stability while keeping her weight and energy within a healthy range.
