Raon’s Stage 2 CKD Care – Finding Balance

Name: Leo
Date of Birth: 2013 (12 years old)
Condition: CKD and IBD

Despite battling both IBD and CKD, AIM care helped Leo's creatinine levels drop.

From Leo’s Guardian

Leo has both chronic kidney disease (CKD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which makes his care more complex than usual.
Because of his digestive condition, he cannot stay on a standard renal diet, so we’ve focused on finding a plan that keeps him as comfortable and stable as possible.

Starting the Routine

In December 2024, Leo began a daily care routine that included the Dr. Toru Protocol, Intensive Protocol, omega-3, and other supplements recommended by his veterinarian such as Azodyl and Renamezin.
We continued his existing blood pressure medication and monitored his hydration and diet closely.

While it has been difficult to find the right balance for his digestion and kidney care, Leo has remained bright and responsive throughout.

Leo’s kidney readings remained under regular review during this period.
While some fluctuations were observed, his appetite stayed steady, and he continued to eat with interest when meals were portioned carefully.

Daily Life and Condition

Leo has always loved food but needs smaller, frequent meals to prevent vomiting related to IBD.
Despite these challenges, he moves comfortably around the house and responds well to attention.
His guardian reported that his daily rhythm has remained stable, with no major changes in behavior or energy.

What I Learned as a Guardian

Caring for a cat with both CKD and IBD has taught me the importance of patience and observation.
Even when changes are small, keeping track of appetite, hydration, and energy can make daily management easier and less stressful.

Looking Ahead

Leo’s next follow-up will focus on maintaining hydration, monitoring phosphorus levels, and managing his weight carefully to prevent further loss.
With continued consistency and veterinary guidance, we hope to maintain his current stability in the months ahead.
