Cats with CKD and Elevated Inflammation Markers: What to Be Careful About

Hello from Greycoat Research,
If your cat has CKD and the bloodwork shows concerns beyond kidney values, this email is for you.
At Greycoat Research, we have consulted on more than 4,000 cases of cats with Stage 2 or Stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Through these consultations, we have seen that not every CKD cat should be supported in the same way.
In particular, cats with elevated inflammation markers may need a different daily care approach than cats whose inflammation markers appear relatively stable.
Creatinine, BUN, phosphorus, and SDMA are important kidney values.
But when inflammation markers such as SAA, WBC, or globulin are also elevated, the routine may need to be adjusted.
For these cats, it is important to look not only at kidney support, but also at immune balance.
What Elevated Inflammation Markers May Suggest
Elevated inflammation markers may suggest that the body is dealing with an additional burden.
This may be related to oral inflammation, gastrointestinal irritation, pancreatic issues, urinary tract inflammation, infection, skin issues, or a broader body-wide response related to toxin burden.
That is why the first step is not simply adding more ingredients said to support kidney care.
The first step is to understand why those inflammation markers may be elevated.
Why Immune-Boosting Ingredients Should Be Used Carefully
Some guardians give mushroom extracts after hearing that they may be helpful in kidney-support or immune-support routines.
Mushroom extracts are not automatically bad.
But they are not just basic nutrients either.
Many mushroom extracts may influence immune activity.
For cats that already have elevated inflammation markers, stimulating the immune system more strongly may, in some cases, further disturb or worsen the inflammatory response.
That is why the goal should not always be to boost immunity.
For inflammation-sensitive cats, supporting a balanced immune response may be more appropriate.
For These Cats, Balance Matters More Than Stimulation
When inflammation markers are elevated, stronger care is not always better.
What matters more is helping the immune response, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress stay more balanced.
This is especially important for cats with digestive sensitivity, frequent vomiting or diarrhea, a history of pancreatitis, steroid use, or multiple supplements in their daily routine.
For these cats, more is not always better.
A careful, balanced kidney-focused routine may be more appropriate.
Why Greycoat Focuses on Niacinamide, Curcumin, and Quercetin
At Greycoat Research, we prefer a balance-oriented approach for CKD cats with elevated inflammation markers.
That is why we focus on ingredients selected for immune balance, antioxidant defense, and cellular stability — rather than ingredients used mainly for immune boosting.
Niacinamide, curcumin, and quercetin are not used simply to push the immune system harder.
Instead, they are better understood as ingredients that may help support inflammatory balance, oxidative stress management, and cellular stability.
In other words, their direction is closer to immune balance than immune boosting.
The goal is not to force the immune system higher.
The goal is to help the body stay more stable and less reactive as part of a kidney-focused care routine.
Finding the Cause Comes First
If your cat’s SAA, WBC, globulin, or other inflammation markers are elevated, it is important to work with your veterinarian to look for possible causes.
This may include oral inflammation, gastrointestinal issues, pancreatic issues, urinary tract problems, infection, medication use, or other hidden sources of inflammation.
After that, the daily support routine should be designed carefully.
For these cats, the routine should not overstimulate the immune system.
It should be built around balance.
Greycoat’s Recommendation
For CKD cats with elevated inflammation markers, Greycoat Research recommends a daily care approach that considers both kidney support and immune balance.
This is why we developed Greycoat Rebalance.
Greycoat Rebalance is a balance-oriented kidney-support supplement designed for immune-sensitive cats who may need a more careful daily routine when inflammation markers are elevated.
It is not designed to simply boost immunity.
It is formulated to support immune balance, antioxidant defense, and cellular stability as part of a kidney-focused daily routine.
At Greycoat Research, we believe that inflammation-sensitive CKD cats need balanced care — not overstimulating care.
