April Cat of the Month: Milo

Meet Milo
14 Years Old | Abyssinian | Korea

Milo is a 14-year-old cat from Korea living with Stage 2 CKD. Even before his diagnosis, his guardian had already been told by the veterinarian to pay attention to kidney health because his creatinine levels had consistently been on the higher end of the normal range. Three years ago, his bloodwork already suggested that long-term kidney care would be important.

The Hardest Part
: “He Rejected Every Pill”

One of the hardest parts for Milo’s guardian was giving supplements. In the beginning, Milo resisted so strongly that giving him a pill felt impossible. He would reject it with his whole body, and every attempt turned into a stressful struggle for both Milo and his guardian.

Over time, his guardian tried different methods and eventually began using a Pill Gun as recommended. Slowly, Milo became more comfortable with the routine, and now he takes his supplements much more easily.

How His Guardian Built a Routine
: Daily Supplements, Wet Food, and Hydration  Dr. toru

After Milo was diagnosed with Stage 2 CKD, his guardian focused on creating a more consistent routine. Greycoat Dr. Toru became part of his daily care, and dry food was gradually replaced with wet food to help support hydration.

Instead of looking for a single dramatic solution, his guardian focused on small daily habits that could be maintained over time. Supplements, hydration, meals, and daily observation all became part of Milo’s routine.

The Changes That Matter Most
: Lower Creatinine, More Energy, and More Playfulness

At one point, Milo’s guardian became worried when his creatinine level increased to 2.20. But compared to July 2025, his more recent bloodwork showed a change in creatinine level of 1.81. BUN and phosphorus also remained within a stable range.

But the most meaningful changes were not only in the bloodwork. After building a more consistent routine, Milo showed more energy than before. He started running around the house more often, became more playful, and showed more of the lively personality his guardian remembered.

For Milo’s guardian, those changes felt just as important as the numbers.

A Message from Milo’s Guardian
: “The Small Daily Habits Made the Biggest Difference”

“When Milo’s creatinine reached 2.20, I was very worried. But instead of focusing only on the number itself, I tried to stay consistent with his daily routine. I gave Dr. Toru as part of Milo’s daily care routine, changed from dry food to wet food, and paid closer attention to hydration. Looking back now, I believe staying consistent with his overall routine mattered most.”

Why Greycoat Research Chose Milo
: A Story About Consistency, Hydration, and Long-Term Care

Greycoat Research chose Milo because his story shows that kidney care is often built through consistent daily routines rather than one dramatic change. Milo’s guardian stayed consistent with supplements, hydration, and meals, even when things felt stressful at first.

His story is also a reminder that the most meaningful signs are not always found only in bloodwork. Sometimes they appear in a cat who begins eating better, playing more, and feeling more like themselves again over time.

Our mission is to advance feline kidney health.
