If your cat is refusing to take their capsules, or are hard to feed capsules due to their aggressive personalities, a pill gun may be worth consideration. Using a pill gun will allow you to feed your cat pills without directly putting your hand near your cat’s mouth. This has the twofold benefit of being less stressful for your cat and safer for your hands, as your cat will not be able to bite them. However, as a pill gun may appear strange and unfamiliar to your cat, you should slowly get your cat used to it to ensure they are more at ease around it.
If even a pill gun won’t work, or if your cat still refuses to swallow capsules regardless, then you can try offering the capsules with snacks. Apply some puree-based snacks on the capsule to make the capsule more acceptable and palatable for your cat. Offering some additional snacks on top of that will make your cat feel like they are being rewarded for doing a good job of taking their capsules and more willing to accept them. In this case, you will slowly need to reduce the amount of snacks given alongside or after the capsules until they are used to taking the capsules alone.
As a last resort, you can try splitting the capsules and mixing their contents into a thick or creamy puree-based snack to get your cat to eat by themselves. If the contents of the capsules have a flavor that your cat dislikes, try applying the mixed results around your cat’s lips. They will naturally attempt to lick and eat the snacks around their lips.
These systematic approaches can help keep your cat relatively stress-free while ensuring their bodies still get the substances they need for their health.
