Cats who have primarily been fed a raw food diet may show resistance to being switched to a renal diet. In that case, your best option may be to increasingly mix in a bit of renal food into their raw food until they can properly transition to a renal diet.
It is difficult to determine and/or limit the amount of protein, phosphorus, and sodium content of raw food, making it unsuitable for cats with CKD, as too much of the nutrients can end up putting a strain on their already damaged kidneys.
As such, it is important to steadily help your cat transition and adjust to a diet more suited for their condition. Please make sure to monitor your cat throughout the progress so you can ensure a safer and less stressful change to their lifestyle.
